Basic Curriculum Description

Swedish Massage 200 hours
You will become comfortable with touch. Students give and receive a full body Swedish massage. Includes theory and history, demonstration of technique, supervised practice and guided realization technique.
Anatomy and Physiology 75 hours
Students learn the structure and function of the body, exploring the vital systems. Lectures focus on the relationship of the body system and response to massage.
Business Practices 45 hours
Vital information regarding the industry and needs for starting a massage business is taught. Topics include career options, state law, marketing, record keeping and professionalism.
Hydrotherapy 20 hours
Basics of hydrotherapy principles are covered: use of hot and cold, various baths, dry brushing and salt glows.
Health and Hygiene 20 hours
Basics of health and disease prevention are covered with topics such as proper care of equipment and supplies, personal health maintenance, and working on persons with HIV/AIDS.
Pathology 40 hours
Introduction to the theories and mechanisms of disease. Focuses on the pathological conditions most likely encountered in practice. Special attention given to precautions, contraindications and indications for massage sessions when working with clients exhibiting specific conditions; and when and how it is appropriate to refer clients to other health care practitioners. Conditions considered will involve the body systems covered in Advanced anatomy.
Kineseology (PAK) 50 hours
Review of Anatomy covered in Basic, then guided through muscles relating to the area being introduced during each phase of study. Also, in-depth study of Systems Anatomy, whereby students are taught about the Nervous, Cardiac, Respiratory, Digestive, Circulatory, Skeletal, Integumentary, Muscular, Endocrine, Excretory, and Reproductive System.
Internship 50 hours
Students
receive “hands on” experience working in our massage clinic: performing massages
on the public, scheduling appointments, interviewing clients and maintaining
proper records.
